Portrait photograph of Adolf Noether in later life, sepia

Adolf Noether 1855–1943

Adolf Noether was born in Dresden on 9 December 1855 and died there on 8 July 1943. He trained as a lithographer, studied at the Dresden School of Applied Arts and in Berlin, knew Ludwig Richter and became known above all as a watercolourist: his views of Dresden and Loschwitz, the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, Meissen and Moritzburg, as well as his flower studies, were also published as prints and picture postcards.

About this website

I am Adolf Noether's great-great-grandson and have admired his pictures for many years. In my research I noticed how little is known about him. This website aims to become a reliable source on the painter – and to bring together people who own his works or know something about him.

Wanted

Several works and documents probably still exist, but their whereabouts are unknown – among them an album leaf with a poem and watercolour from 1925 and a portfolio of about 70 watercolours.
