The sheet shows the old Zeibig mill in the valley of the Loschwitz brook, which in Ludwig Richter's day still drove seven water mills. Richter himself had drawn the mill and used the motif for his woodcut illustrating the folk song “In einem kühlen Grunde”. A photograph from around 1865 by the Loschwitz photographer August Kotzsch (1836–1880) shows a very similar view. The mill was demolished in 1936; the narrow path along the brook has become a main road. Noether captures the idyll of a still rural Loschwitz. (Information after Fichter 1992.)
